How we do it

A few productions from our records: what the job called for, what we brought and how it went.

Outdoor festival · Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit

African World Festival main stage

Days of live music outdoors on the festival’s main stage in Detroit’s Midtown, with one system and one crew for every act.

The challenge

A multi-day outdoor festival needs a system that covers a large open-air crowd evenly, stays up safely for days, and gives every act a clean monitor mix with quick changeovers between performers.

What we brought

  • Flew a 20-cabinet Electro-Voice XLC line array with 12 dual-18" subwoofers (2021)
  • 16 stage monitors, front fills and 10 wireless in-ear monitor packs for the performers
  • Pre-rigged truss on 8 one-ton chain motors, stage lighting and power distribution
  • A crew of 9 on the festival’s main stage

The result

SR Audio has produced the festival’s main stage more than once – our records include 2015 (August 14–16) and 2021.

  • A lighting rig of about 100 fixtures – 24 ETC Source Four ellipsoidals and 12 Color Kinetics LED washes among them

Multi-city arena tour

An arena tour that moved city to city with the same production every night – line array, moving lights and video – in buildings like U.S. Bank Arena and Boardwalk Hall.

The challenge

Different arenas every night, the same show every night. The system had to scale to each building, with versions of the rig for venues with and without video.

What we brought

  • Large-format line arrays (L-Acoustics V-DOSC or Electro-Voice XLC, up to 32 cabinets) with 16 dual-18" subwoofers
  • Martin MAC 700 moving lights – up to 19 wash and 12 profile fixtures
  • Box truss on up to 15 one-ton motors, special effects and IMAG video where the venue called for it
  • Venues included U.S. Bank Arena, Petersen Events Center, Richmond Coliseum, Boardwalk Hall, Greensboro Coliseum and the Schottenstein Center

The result

Arenas in six cities with one production team and one consistent show.

National comedy arena tours

Sound and lighting for headline comedy tours in arenas and theaters across the Midwest and East – where every word has to reach the last row.

The challenge

In comedy the words are the show. Arena-size rooms have to sound intimate, and the stage has to look big on a lean, fast load-in.

What we brought

  • 32-cabinet Electro-Voice XLC line array with 8–16 dual-18" subwoofers
  • 12–24 Color Kinetics LED washes, Martin MAC 700 moving lights and full stage drape
  • Truss and rigging on one-ton motors, plus monitors for the performers
  • Venues included Quicken Loans Arena, the KFC Yum! Center, Bon Secours Wellness Arena, Joe Louis Arena, the Arie Crown Theater and the Milwaukee Theatre

The result

Multiple national headline tours supported with one repeatable package.

Corporate event · Masonic Temple, Detroit

Statewide innovation competition

Breakout rooms for a statewide startup competition: every room with its own sound, microphones, computers and video, all running at once.

The challenge

Many presentations in many rooms at the same time. Each room needed to work on its own, start on time and be simple for presenters.

What we brought

  • A ready-to-run AV rack in each breakout room: 16-channel mixer, wireless microphones and playback
  • About 19 computers and video displays for the presentations
  • Cabling, power distribution and a crew on call to move between rooms

The result

One of the largest equipment lists in our records for a single day – about 170 line items across the building.
